Some of Hyperliquid's largest holders are heading for the exits. On Sunday, a single wallet moved 177,518 HYPE, worth about $16.08 million, onto OKX and Bybit within the space of an hour. Around the same time, a wallet tied to Hypersphere Ventures sold a position it had held for barely a month.
The deposits came as HYPE slid back toward $90 after a run to a record near $95 earlier in the month, and they have already started to squeeze leveraged traders on the long side.
On-chain tracker Lookonchain flagged the flows. The largest came from an address beginning 0xc745, which split its transfer almost evenly: 90,518 HYPE went to OKX and 87,000 HYPE went to Bybit. Moving tokens from self-custody onto a centralized exchange does not guarantee a sale. At this size, though, the market usually reads it as a strong hint that one is coming.
A pattern, not a one-off
The 0xc745 wallet had already been active. Two days earlier it sent 89,050 HYPE, roughly $8.21 million at the time, across Binance, Kraken, OKX and Gate. Taken together, its exchange deposits over the past several days come to about $24.29 million. That points to a holder distributing into strength in stages, not a single panicked dump.
The Hypersphere Ventures-linked sale is a different kind of trade. According to on-chain data, the wallet sold 62,869 HYPE for about $5.78 million, which locked in a profit of roughly $2.13 million on tokens bought about a month ago. After a run to fresh record highs, a fund taking a quick profit is textbook momentum trading. Still, it adds supply at a moment when the order books are already absorbing whale deposits. Between the 0xc745 deposits and the Hypersphere sale, tracked flows came to about 240,387 HYPE, or close to $21.9 million, in a single session.
Large Hyperliquid holders have been busy all month. Earlier in September, one of the platform's best-known traders was sitting on a $17.5 million profit as NEAR rallied 187%, a reminder of how much capital rotates through the ecosystem's wallets.

Longs start to feel it
Leverage is where the selling turns into forced selling. Lookonchain also reported that a trader at address 0x1add had 11,796 HYPE (about $1.06 million) liquidated as the price slipped. The position is not closed. The wallet still holds a 47,184 HYPE long worth about $4.24 million, and its new liquidation price is $88.50.
That level matters because it sits only a few percent below where HYPE was trading on Sunday. If the token breaks it, another forced sale follows, which can push the price lower and threaten the next cluster of stops. The same cascade played out in reverse a few weeks ago, when Zcash short sellers were forced to cover into a vertical rally.
The broader backdrop is still modest. Liquidations tied to HYPE over the past 24 hours were only around $1.24 million, against futures volume of about $1.6 billion and open interest of roughly $3.47 billion. Positioning is heavy, but so far it is not unwinding in a disorderly way. Across all crypto markets, about $270 million in positions were liquidated in the past 24 hours, touching more than 101,000 traders.
The buyback is still running
Hyperliquid has a structural cushion that most tokens facing whale distribution lack. The protocol's Assistance Fund uses trading revenue to buy HYPE on the open market, and it keeps going regardless of what large holders do. In the latest 24-hour window it bought and burned about 10,400 HYPE, worth roughly $956,800. Cumulatively, the fund has taken about 48.96 million HYPE out of circulation, worth around $4.48 billion at current prices and equal to roughly 4.9% of maximum supply.
The fund is paid for by real activity. Hyperliquid generated about $58.27 million in protocol revenue over the past 30 days. At the current pace, the daily buyback of just under $1 million is dwarfed by a single session of whale deposits worth more than $20 million, but it is a steady bid that does not tire.
Access to the token has also widened. Binance opened spot trading in HYPE on September 24 with HYPE/USDT, HYPE/USDC and HYPE/TRY pairs. That brought in a new pool of buyers, and it also gave large holders a deeper venue to sell into. Some of the recent exchange deposits may simply be whales taking advantage of that liquidity. The token's September run was strong enough to sit alongside other big altcoin whale trades that dominated flows this month.
What to watch
The immediate test is $88.50, the liquidation line on the 0x1add long, along with the $90 area where HYPE has spent most of the past week. A clean hold there would suggest the whale supply is being absorbed. A break would likely bring a wave of long liquidations first and fundamental selling second.
The other signal is whether 0xc745 keeps depositing. So far the wallet has worked in steady, sizable batches every couple of days. A fresh transfer onto exchanges would confirm that distribution is still under way. A quiet week would suggest the selling that hit HYPE this weekend has mostly run its course.
